Reached at the rural community, which is geographically and socially disadvantaged.

The district where the organization is located was severely affected. In its rural areas, most houses and public facilities like schools collapsed. Recognizing the importance of information, a preliminary visit was conducted to survey the area and provide immediate relief. Coincidentally, this visit occurred on the same day a significant aftershock, akin to the original earthquake, struck the region. The disaster management team witnessed people crying out for help and life, suffering from the absence of disaster management support from the responsible authorities. Even now, nine years later, until the end of 2024, the fear persists; every year, in the same month, they question their safety. Furthermore, a complete settlement management has yet to be implemented.

Reaching out to most of the wards

If the key players of a nation begin to operate like NGOs, it may not be effective due to the influence of politics and political views on government systems. Politics is inherently competitive. Thus, social issues and sustainable community development require only administrative support from the main stakeholders. Essential services such as learning centers, public libraries, health posts, or post offices should be operated by the community.

To ensure this, the initiative will be piloted in 18 wards, leveraging technological advancements and a nationwide network to disseminate information about this initiative. The focus will remain on learning and addressing the issues and challenges that prevent children from continuing their education.

Wise to focus on Prevention

After direct contact with the caregivers, primarily elderly women, and during visits to their workplaces, Console Mission identified the causes of their suffering. A notable cause is parents being deceived by their own children once property rights are transferred. This highlights the necessity for individuals or couples to be informed about their rights protected by law and the legal processes available to take action, or to simply reach out to the relevant person, such as the ward chairman, in the community for assistance. Even the educated may lack awareness, and Nepalese society has been slow to establish local committees that could play an active role, similar to the regular meeting points like libraries found in European and American countries.

Therefore, the foundation consists of (1) formal education, attending school as one criterion, (2) developing self-confidence and understanding that education is linked to future career prospects, and (3) being an active and responsible participant in the community, not just waiting for government action but being an effective part of the system.

The guiding principle was, "It is better to prevent than to cure."

First Public Health Educational Activities

As part of their training, trainees are expected to apply the knowledge they have gained before they can be recognized for their efforts. However, some trainees, who were college students, lacked a practical workplace to demonstrate their skills. Consequently, four motivated individuals took the initiative to organize an event in conjunction with the celebration of Global Handwashing Day. During the Health and Management training, a health professional taught handwashing as a key aspect of hygiene, demonstrating the proper steps. The training required the trainees to translate their learning into practice, and the event presented just such an opportunity. Below is a brief report link. The theme of the Global Handwashing Partnership was "Clean hands save lives," while the organizing team crafted their own theme: "Learn to Hand Wash and Teach."

Starting with foundation development

  1. The plan to establish an NGO was conceived during a meeting among three women with similar backgrounds, where societal expectations limited daughters to household roles. These women defied such norms, pursued further education post-school, and contributed as Community Health Workers and in medical roles at hospitals. Now retired, they aspire to extend their service to the people of Nepal, especially girls and women. Their vision includes guiding Nepalese towards the simplicity and benefits of staying within the country, rather than seeking employment abroad, and fostering the welfare of their community and nation.
  2. Upon gaining legal status, Dilasha Aviyan, known as Console Mission in English, initiated its mission by visiting homes for the elderly, beginning with the closest and eventually the largest government-run facility in Nepal. This outreach extended to numerous elder care homes throughout the Kathmandu valley as part of their preliminary program visits. The objective was to offer Health and Management Training.
  3. The first five-year plan was developed to identify needs, positioning the organization correctly, and establishing its existence as an NGO. This was in response to the expectations of the Nepalese people for bringing about the necessary and suitable changes.
